A Jump on Garage Sale Shopping

My husband Pete and I dragged ourselves out of bed this morning at 6:30 a.m. to scour a couple of garage sales, a flea market, and a few thrift stores for treasures.  We actually found a lot of cool things to dig through.  I guess the unseasonably warm temperatures we had in the last part of February have propelled some people into spring cleaning mode. So, thank you early spring weather for the opportunity to buy cheap, groovy stuff!  The group of things I have pictured above set me back a whopping $3.30, and it consists of...
1. As the backdrop, a shocking pink, 1960's smock.
2. A vintage photo of some ladies lounging on a lake shore.
3. Approximately 2 1/2 yard of brown calico fabric.
4. An early 1900's etched glass tumbler.
5. The Bloomingdale's Book of Entertaining-- full of tips from 1973 New York's social elite. In case you were wondering, yes, Geoffrey Holder (the guy in the 1970's 7-Up commercials) was included in this exclusive group.  Mr. Holder strongly emphasized serving rum at parties, however, he never mentioned the uncola in this book.
6. A copper colored, cast metal statuette of The Empire State Building.
By the way, Pete's find of the morning was the $5 scanner I used to scan the vintage photograph.  Thanks Pete, you always find the best electronics bargains!

  1. Hi! I've seen you post a few times on the OK Disciples of Etsy Team Page, and I found your blog. Your Looky Loo dolls are so cute! And so is that robot your husband made.

How are the craft shows going? I'm getting ready to start doing some. I just opened my business at the start of January. I think the first show I'm doing is the weekend of May 7th.

  2. Hi Kimberly! Thanks for the kind feedback. Lately, I'm not selling quite as much as I'd like at the craft shows, but I'm having a so much fun! I will participate at Blue Dome in Tulsa in May, and I think that is where I'll do really well.
Do you have an Etsy shop? I'd love to check it out! Good luck at your craft shows-- where is the May 7th show?

  4. Thanks! A friend and I had talked about sharing a booth at Blue Dome, but we decided not to this time. A multiple day, outdoor festival sounds too intense for us, since we're just starting out. We're a lot less stressed out since we decided to skip that one. I think we might still go and check it out though! Maybe next year.

The May 7th show is just a small church craft show at Sunnylane Family Church in Del City. I thought it would be a good chance to do a trial run and see how everything works.

  5. I just started doing craft shows last year, and I did only smaller ones to figure out how to set up. That was a BIG help!

I hope you do really well (setting up and selling)!
